Walls and Structures

Hold the hillside, and look good doing it.

Retaining walls in block, brick, natural stone and concrete, built with a proper base, drainage and reinforcement so they hold back soil for the long haul.

  • Materials: Segmental block, natural stone, brick or poured concrete
  • Drainage: Gravel backfill and perforated pipe
  • Reinforcement: Geogrid or steel where the design calls for it

The overview

What it is, and why it matters.

A retaining wall pushes back against tons of soil and water. A wall that looks fine but has a weak base, no drainage or no reinforcement will lean, bulge or fail the first time a wet spring soaks the slope behind it.

We design and build retaining walls for homes in Nashville and across hilly Middle Tennessee. We handle the excavation, the compacted base, the drainage stone and pipe, the wall itself and the finish, and we tell you honestly when a tall wall needs an engineer.

Why owners choose it

Four things done right.

A base that does not move

A compacted gravel base below the frost line keeps the wall from shifting.

Water has somewhere to go

Drainage stone and pipe behind the wall relieve the pressure that makes walls fail.

Reinforced where needed

Taller walls are tied into the soil with geogrid, and very tall walls are engineered.

A face that fits

The wall is finished to match your home, landscape and budget.

How it goes

From first call to retaining walls.

  1. 01

    Look at the slope

We walk the site, check drainage and soil and talk through height and finish.

  2. 02

    Plan the wall

You see the materials, the drainage plan and a written price. Tall walls get an engineer.

  3. 03

    Dig and build

Base, drainage, wall and backfill are built in order and compacted in layers.

  4. 04

    Cap and finish

Caps are set, the soil is graded and planting areas are tidied.

Where we work

Retaining Walls across Middle Tennessee.

We do this work in 28 cities, from Nashville and Franklin to Murfreesboro, Gallatin, Columbia and Dickson.

Good questions

Retaining Walls: common questions

How tall can a retaining wall be before I need an engineer?

Rules differ by city and county, but walls above about four feet, walls that support a driveway or building and walls on steep slopes commonly need engineering. We tell you early so there are no surprises.

Do retaining walls need drainage?

Yes. Water pressure is the leading reason walls fail, so gravel backfill and a drain pipe behind the wall are a standard part of the design.

How do I get a price for retaining walls?

Fill in the form or call or text 615-431-3789. We confirm what is involved and send a written price, and most projects start with a free visit.

Ready to talk about retaining walls?

A visit and a written price. A real person calls back, usually the same day.

Free estimate

Let's look at your project.

Tell us what you have or what you want: a wall that is crumbling, a chimney that leaks, a patio, a fireplace, a retaining wall or a commercial building. A real person reads every message and calls back, usually the same day, with straight answers and a written estimate.

  • A visit first: we measure the work, look at the walls, the footing and the drainage and see what is there now
  • Honest advice on repair or rebuild, the right materials and the right details for the way you live
  • A written price with the materials, the base, the extras and the cleanup spelled out
